Karnataka BJP leaders on Monday, 6 July paid floral tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee at the party's state headquarters in Bengaluru, marking his 125th birth anniversary. The commemoration at Jagannath Bhavan in Malleswaram was followed by a sapling-planting drive under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' environmental campaign.

Senior party leaders gathered at the BJP's Karnataka state headquarters to offer tributes before Dr Mookerjee's portrait. The event was attended by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, BJP Karnataka co-in-charge Sudhakar Reddy, MLC C.T. Ravi, and BJP State General Secretary N. Ravi Kumar, alongside other office-bearers and senior functionaries.

Following the tribute ceremony, leaders participated in the tree-plantation drive, in keeping with the Centre's ongoing campaign to promote environmental conservation.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi described Dr Mookerjee as a 'great patriot' whose contributions to India's unity, industrial development, and education reform remain a guiding force. 'His exceptional political leadership in founding and nurturing the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, with nationalism at its core, remains unparalleled. As a proud son of Mother India who lived by the principle of Nation First, may his ideals and vision continue to inspire the younger generation,' Joshi said.

Kumaraswamy Calls Him Architect of Industrial Self-Reliance

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy highlighted Dr Mookerjee's role as independent India's first Minister for Industry and Supply, crediting him with laying the foundation for the nation's industrial self-reliance. 'A great patriot who believed in Nation First and lived by that conviction, Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee dedicated his life to the service of Bharat,' Kumaraswamy said.

Kumaraswamy also drew attention to a special Op-Ed authored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and published in Kannada dailies on the occasion, which he said offered 'profound insights into Dr Mookerjee's life, struggles, sacrifices and unwavering dedication to the nation.' He urged all Kannadigas to read the piece and draw inspiration from it.

CT Ravi Links Legacy to Article 370 Abrogation

BJP MLC C.T. Ravi paid tribute to Dr Mookerjee's campaign for the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, noting that he 'laid down his life for that cause.' Ravi argued that the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 was the fulfilment of the ideological vision Dr Mookerjee had championed decades earlier. 'His supreme sacrifice for the unity and sovereignty of the nation will continue to inspire generations,' Ravi said.

The 125th birth anniversary observance comes as the BJP continues to position Dr Mookerjee's legacy as central to its ideological identity, with events held across the country. The party is expected to continue commemorations through the week.
