Bengaluru, May 10 (NationPress) BJP MLA C. K. Ramamurthy fiercely rebuked the Congress party for alleging that he disrespected the National Flag during an event, asserting that they are attempting to incite controversy.
He urged the Congress to gain some sense and cease disseminating misinformation about him.
In a media interaction, Ramamurthy condemned the Congress, stating, "Their frustration over the loss of a former local MLA has led them to misrepresent my actions as if I committed an error that I did not."
"A prayer ceremony was held by Kannada cultural groups at a temple in Jayanagar's 9th Block to pray for the success of the Indian Army's operations. Sweets were distributed during this gathering. A video has surfaced, which shows a third person beside me wiping his hand on the National Flag. The Congress is deceitfully claiming that I disrespected it, which I find unacceptable," he explained.
He emphasized, "An FIR has already been filed at Tilaknagar Police Station against the person who disrespected the flag, not against me. Yet, the Congress is mobilizing to have me arrested. This clearly exposes who the true anti-nationals are, revealing the ethos and character of the Congress party."
Ramamurthy continued, "The BJP did not organize the event in Jayanagar. Local pro-Kannada organizations invited me. As an MLA, it was my obligation to attend such a program. Nevertheless, I feel deeply hurt by these allegations."
The Karnataka Congress had accused Ramamurthy and BJP leaders on May 8 of insulting the National Flag by allegedly using it as a handkerchief during the sweet distribution event in Jayanagar, Bengaluru.
"Fake patriotic BJP members have consistently rejected the National Flag and the Constitution of India. The RSS and BJP cannot even embrace a flag that symbolizes equality, unity, and integrity. Under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, such actions could result in imprisonment for up to three years, a fine, or both," the Congress stated in a social media post.
The party also shared a 26-second video on this issue, captioned 'Insult to the National Flag by BJP'.
