Did K'taka BJP File a Police Complaint Against Youth Congress Over a Banner Targeting PM Modi?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 9 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has filed a police complaint against the officials of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee, alleging they orchestrated a scheme to incite public dissent against the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi by distributing misleading posters and trying to instigate a law and order crisis within the region.
A group including Bengaluru North District President S. Harish, Bengaluru Central District President Saptagiri Gowda, and Bengaluru South District President C.K. Ramamurthy approached Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) Akshay M. Hakay and presented a memorandum outlining their grievances.
The memorandum indicated that on February 8, the State Youth Congress displayed a banner in front of the Vidhana Soudha that criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The banner purportedly claimed that a Prime Minister who lacks the bravery to attend Parliament is incapable of safeguarding the nation. Leaders from the BJP asserted that this act was part of a larger plot against the Central government.
The document further alleged that members of the Youth Congress were scheming to incite rebellion against the Centre and PM Modi through deceptive propaganda. In light of this, the BJP has called for a case to be initiated against the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress leaders for unlawfully erecting a banner at the Vidhana Soudha, which they claim disrespects the office of the Prime Minister and aims to disrupt public order in the state.
Meanwhile, condemning the detention of National BJP Yuva Morcha President and MP Tejasvi Surya along with Jayanagar MLA C.K. Ramamurthy during their protest against the Metro fare increase in Bengaluru, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra expressed that the Congress-led administration's actions represent a grave mockery of democracy. He characterized it as a suppression of free speech and the pinnacle of autocratic behavior. 'I firmly denounce this action,' he asserted.
'In this so-called Hitler government, voicing the people's concerns against the anti-people policies of the Karnataka Congress government, which attempts to exploit the common individual through a Metro fare hike, has turned into a punishable offense,' he remarked.
Detaining BJP leaders to silence pro-people sentiments is inexcusable, he stated. If the government believes it can stifle the truth through such measures, it is under a false impression. Although the Metro fare increase has been temporarily suspended due to the intervention of the Central government, the Congress government's anti-people stance persists without pause, Vijayendra pointed out.
'You cannot mask your shortcomings with authoritarian tactics. If the government, intoxicated by power, attempts to quash public sentiment, it will compel every party member and citizen to rise in defense of democratic rights,' he emphasized.
Earlier in the day, Tejasvi Surya protested at a Metro station in Bengaluru against the fare hike. In response to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's comment that Surya is an 'empty trunk', the BJP MP carried an empty trunk during the protest and showcased a poster declaring, 'The Congress-led government is an empty trunk government.' This poster also featured images of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar.
