Mangaluru, May 2 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has declared a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the family of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, who tragically lost his life to a group of assailants in broad daylight.
The BJP has strongly called for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into this incident.
After attending Shetty's funeral in Mangaluru, State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra shared this announcement with the media.
He pointed out that the brutal slaying of Hindu worker Suhas Shetty came shortly after the shock of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Vijayendra stated, “The BJP is taking this matter very seriously.”
He added, “The police department's failure is evident from the start. They have failed to protect citizens.”
“We have decided to extend Rs 25 lakh as compensation to Suhas's family and stand with them during this difficult time. The BJP leaders and workers are united with his family, who have lost a significant source of support,”
Vijayendra urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara to acknowledge the gravity of the situation and provide state compensation.
He reiterated the demand for the case to be investigated by the NIA.
“There is no protection for Hindus under the Congress government,”
he claimed.
Opposition Leader R. Ashoka mentioned that all BJP leaders and workers attended Suhas Shetty's funeral.
“He was murdered by members of the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Karnataka Forum for Dignity, who represent jihadi elements. I refused to take a call from the Police Commissioner,” he said.
“I have heard that a 'surrender team' is being established. The actual murderers and those who surrender are not the same. This is the modus operandi in this area. The police are merely standing by as the surrender team is not yet ready. How long will this continue?”
He also criticized the police regarding another incident, accusing them of wrongfully implicating a mentally challenged individual in a case involving a cow's udder being slashed, reported from Bengaluru.
“Despite threats being issued a week prior declaring Suhas Shetty as the next target, the police failed to provide any protection. I question if the police even exist in this state,”
he said.
“While the Chief Minister publicly chastises police officers, Congress party offices have become policing centers. I lack trust in this investigation.”
Ashoka reaffirmed the call for an NIA investigation.
“Whenever 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans are heard, murders follow. CM Siddaramaiah's past actions are connected to the killings of Hindu workers. During his previous term, the state Cabinet released 1,600 PFI activists. Empowered by this, they are committing murders without fear,”
he alleged.
“If a thorough investigation is not conducted, retaliatory killings will persist. Anti-national elements operate freely in coastal Karnataka. Assassins come from Kerala, commit murders, and escape. Innocent individuals are framed. This is the reality here,”
Ashoka added.
He claimed that just a week before his murder, Suhas Shetty was cautioned by police against carrying weapons in his vehicle, which was searched.
“How did this information reach the killers? If he had been armed, he might have survived. The murder occurred within a half-kilometer range of police presence, yet they did not rush to the scene,”
he noted.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and former Minister M.P. Renukacharya condemned the police for their inaction.
He questioned why 20 arrests were made swiftly in the mob lynching case of Mohammad Ashraf, while no arrests have been made in Suhas Shetty's murder, despite video evidence showing the perpetrators.
Speaking in Davanagere, Renukacharya alleged, “Hindus learn prayers and bhajans in temples. But in madrassas, children are taught to throw stones and kill Hindus.”
He called for those involved in the murder of Hindu activists to be “shot dead.”
He claimed that during Siddaramaiah's prior term, 56 Hindu activists were brutally killed.
“This government gives the impression that it operates with support from Pakistan. Hindus are not safe here. Should we remain silent while Hindu activists are murdered? Hindus are not weak,” he concluded.
