Bengaluru, Nov 3 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra declared on Monday that he will visit Belagavi on Tuesday to show support for the ongoing protests by sugarcane farmers in the area.
After participating in the BJP Chintan Varga session at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Bengaluru, Vijayendra criticized the Congress-led state government for its inability to address the significant issues impacting farmers and rural communities.
He emphasized that sugarcane producers from Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, and Uttara Kannada districts have been protesting for several days, seeking fair prices and government intervention.
"The ministers seem indifferent to their demands. To stand in solidarity with the protesting farmers, I will be in Belagavi tomorrow to join their agitation,” he stated.
Vijayendra accused the state government of overlooking rural distress, asserting that farmers in the Kalyana Karnataka and Kittur Karnataka regions have faced severe losses due to heavy rainfall.
"We visited the affected regions and noted that district in-charge ministers were absent. Even departmental officials displayed indifference. We have urged the government to release aid immediately. Instead of acting, the ministers are comfortably seated in Bengaluru, blaming the Centre for not providing funds, while the Congress government itself has failed to deliver relief to distressed farmers," he charged.
He also highlighted that even after two and a half years in power, the Congress government has not filled water tanks in Chamarajanagar district, forcing farmers there to protest too.
"The government is ignoring these concerns. This Congress administration has not raised a single issue regarding the farmers’ struggles. Their apathy is utterly unacceptable," he declared.
He further alleged that infighting within the Congress over the Chief Minister’s position has escalated.
"There are disputes within the Congress party itself. Let’s see what unfolds in November. However, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister, and Revenue Minister must address the issues faced by sugarcane growers and farmers. That is their responsibility," Vijayendra emphasized.
Commenting on Minister Priyank Kharge's recent remarks regarding the RSS and the Central government, Vijayendra remarked: "Instead of concentrating on his department, Priyank Kharge continues to speak about global issues, the country, and the Sangh Parivar."
