Bengaluru, March 22 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D.K. Shivakumar, asserted on Saturday that all states that are against the delimitation proposal put forth by the Union government will collaborate to ensure that no state's parliamentary representation is diminished.
Speaking to the media in Chennai, Shivakumar stated, “We will unite and confront this challenge. We are committed to ensuring that our parliamentary seats remain intact. It’s essential for us to come together. I trust the media comprehends our apprehensions. This is not a personal battle but a broader struggle for our nation. As one of the most educated states, we contribute immensely to the economic growth of our country. We generate revenue and contribute to the national pool.”
“I take great pride in our adherence to the federal structure. I always say that unity is the foundation, dialogue is progress, and collaboration is success,” he emphasized.
“Under no circumstances can we allow our country or our parliamentary seats to be compromised. The former Prime Minister, the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, introduced the 84th Constitutional Amendment in 2002, which must remain unchanged.”
He highlighted the contributions made by southern states, saying, “In South India, we have consistently safeguarded national interests by adeptly executing family planning initiatives. Our region is progressive. We have made significant advancements both economically and in education. In our planning, we have consistently prioritized national interests over regional ones. This should not be perceived as a disadvantage. That is why we have united to discuss this matter and present our requests.”
Shivakumar added, “Regardless of circumstances, we continue to accept what is offered to us. However, it is time for us to express our concerns. I hope the citizens of this country recognize our issues and that justice is served.”
When questioned about the BJP's protest involving black flags against the meeting, he remarked, “I welcome all the BJP's black flags. I was unafraid when they incarcerated me in Tihar Jail, and I remain fearless now. The individual leading this protest is a humble man from my state who has served our needs. He understands our strength. Let him fulfill his responsibilities. I wish him all the best.”
He was referring to K. Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, who previously served as an IPS officer in Karnataka.
