Kalaburagi (Karnataka), Oct 24 (NationPress) The High Court Bench in Kalaburagi is set to examine petitions from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) along with five other groups who are requesting permission to organize a padayatra on November 2 in Chittapur, a town represented by Minister Priyank Kharge for RDPR, IT, and BT.
Previously, the RSS had contested the refusal of permission from local authorities to proceed with their centenary padayatra in Chittapur. In response, the court instructed the RSS to file a new application to secure authorization for their events on November 2. Following this, organizations such as the Bhim Army, Dalit Panthers, and various Kuruba community groups submitted their own requests to hold marches and processions on the same date.
Additionally, the Karnataka State Farmers’ Association has petitioned for permission to conduct a procession advocating for flood relief from the central government. The State Christian Welfare Society has also sought approval for a peace walk, explaining that their event, which coincides with Sunday prayers, aims to foster peace awareness rather than oppose the RSS march.
The High Court will address these petitions later today.
These organizations have also approached the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi, Fouzia Taranum, who is consulting with the police regarding the requests.
Initially, the RSS planned to hold a foot march on October 19, but was denied permission due to concerns over law and order. The RSS asserted that they had complied with all necessary protocols and subsequently sought the High Court's intervention.
This situation is expected to generate significant debate, with the court’s decision being closely monitored.
In response to a letter from Minister Priyank Kharge urging a ban on RSS activities in public areas, the Congress-led state government enacted legislation mandating that all private organizations secure prior approval from authorities for any public or government property events.
The BJP countered allegations made by the Congress government in Karnataka regarding attempts to suppress the RSS, asserting that the Sangh possesses the capability to face off against "hundreds of Priyank Kharges and Siddaramaiahs."
