Bengaluru, June 30 (NationPress) The alarming increase in heart attack cases in Hassan district of Karnataka has sparked significant worry throughout the state, as reports indicate three major heart attacks leading to fatalities on Monday alone.
According to data from the district health authorities, 21 individuals have succumbed to heart-related issues in Hassan over the past 40 days, with a concerning number being under 50 years old. Disturbingly, five of the deceased were merely 20 years old.
Family members of the victims reported that none of the individuals had any previous medical history indicating heart disease.
In response, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Monday that the government will take steps to identify and address the underlying causes.
"Instructions have been issued to the Health Department to establish a committee. Our goal is to pinpoint the root cause. Once we have clarity on the issue, we can formulate effective solutions. The first step is identifying the problem and addressing it accordingly," stated Siddaramaiah.
The government of Karnataka has designated Harsh Gupta, the Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, to lead a 10-member team tasked with investigating the recent surge in heart attacks in Hassan.
Officials have instructed taluk-level health officers to promptly assist patients experiencing chest pain and to seek support from Bengaluru when necessary.
One victim, Lepakshi, a 50-year-old homemaker, experienced back pain at 7:45 am on Monday at her home in Hassan. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she tragically passed away from a cardiac arrest.
In another instance, Muttaiah, a 58-year-old English professor, collapsed while enjoying tea in front of his college in Channarayapatna town of Hassan district. Medical professionals confirmed he died from a massive heart attack.
Kumar, a 53-year-old farmer, was taken to the hospital after reporting chest pain but unfortunately died of a heart attack shortly thereafter, according to sources. Health department officials are currently awaiting the post-mortem report.
In a recent case, Lohit, an army officer on vacation, also fell victim to a heart attack. He had dedicated 20 years to the army and had been married for seven years. He was scheduled to return on July 3.
