KTR urges Kumaraswamy to revive Adilabad CCI plant, cites ₹2,000 crore plan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao on Wednesday, 15 July met Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H. D. Kumaraswamy in New Delhi, pressing for the immediate revival of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad. Rama Rao led a delegation of farmers and representatives of the CCI Sadhana Samithi, urging the Centre to act before the plant's assets are lost to neglect.
The Revival Proposal
Rama Rao reminded Kumaraswamy of the assurance given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2019 to restart the facility. The Adilabad CCI plant spans nearly 2,300 acres with an installed capacity of 4 lakh tonnes. According to Rama Rao, the plant can be operationalised with an investment of approximately ₹2,000 crore, and a viability-support contribution of ₹250 crore each from the Centre and the state government would be sufficient to get it off the ground.
Rama Rao argued that the revival would generate employment for nearly 6,000 people, and drew a direct parallel with the special package extended to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, contending that Adilabad deserves comparable treatment. 'Instead of allowing this valuable public asset to be reduced to scrap, the Centre must act decisively,' he said.
Political Salvo at Telangana CM
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Rama Rao sharpened his attack on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, clarifying that his political fight is directed at the CM's governance decisions rather than personal animosity. He accused Revanth Reddy of having earned 'four or five PhDs' in the art of diverting public attention, and questioned why the CM — who has reportedly visited Delhi 76 times — had allegedly failed to secure meaningful financial benefits for the state.
Rama Rao also demanded accountability from Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, asking whether Gandhi was indifferent to what he called irresponsible statements by the Telangana chief minister. He expressed outrage over remarks attributed to Revanth Reddy — including alleged references to bloodshed in fields and invoking Hitler as a role model — calling them unbecoming of a sitting chief minister.
Kaleshwaram and Phone-Tapping Allegations
Rama Rao alleged that the Telangana government was deliberately creating difficulties for farmers in connection with the Kaleshwaram project, accusing the administration of taking out its frustrations on the farming community. He also pushed back against phone-tapping allegations levelled at the BRS, challenging critics to produce evidence and noting that similar accusations had previously been made regarding the tapping of film personalities' phones.
Survey Results and BRS Confidence
Rama Rao said Revanth Reddy appeared to be in a state of panic following the results of four recent surveys that, according to him, indicate BRS is on course to return to power. He clarified, however, that his party had not commissioned any of these surveys itself. The BRS leader reiterated that the party would continue its campaign until the CCI plant at Adilabad is revived.
