Key Takeaways
Raichur, April 4 (NationPress) Nara Lokesh, the Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology and Human Resource Development, praised H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries, for his pivotal role in reviving the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) located in Visakhapatnam, which was previously threatened with closure or privatisation.
During a significant gathering in Raichur, Lokesh emphasized that the Vizag Steel Plant holds profound emotional value for the citizens of Andhra Pradesh, encapsulated in the sentiment: “Vizag Steel is the right of the people of Andhra.”
He pointed out that adverse policy decisions made by the former state government had brought the plant to a precarious situation, putting it at risk of shutdown or privatisation.
Lokesh highlighted that upon taking office as Union Steel Minister, Kumaraswamy had committed to protecting the facility. “He kept his word. Today, the plant is on a recovery trajectory and heading towards profitability,” he stated.
Revisiting the events, Lokesh recalled his ongoing communication with Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat to engage Kumaraswamy about the plant's future in New Delhi. During one such conversation, he was directly connected with Kumaraswamy, who made a compelling appeal to safeguard the plant.
“Kumaraswamy reassured me, ‘Brother, please relax. Leave this in my hands.’ He upheld his promise and ensured the protection of the Vizag Steel Plant. The people of Andhra Pradesh are incredibly thankful for his efforts,” Lokesh remarked.
He also mentioned the recent inauguration of the foundation stone for one of India’s largest green steel manufacturing plants in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, established through a collaborative effort.
Lokesh attributed Kumaraswamy’s initiatives as instrumental in attracting this substantial investment to the state.
Reflecting on the enduring bond between their families that spans over thirty years, Lokesh shared that during the United Front government at the Centre, his father, N. Chandrababu Naidu, played a significant role alongside H.D. Deve Gowda, who served as Prime Minister.
“Today, as Kumaraswamy takes on the role of Union Minister, I feel privileged to stand alongside him on this platform,” Lokesh concluded, expressing heartfelt gratitude.
