Synopsis
Key Takeaways
K.T. Rama Rao's Personal Assistant and Public Relations Officer appeared before the police for questioning at Saifabad Police Station in Hyderabad on Monday, 14 September 2026, in connection with the scuffle involving police at the Telangana Legislative Assembly entrance on 7 September. The two aides responded to a notice issued by the Investigating Officer handling the case.
Who Appeared and What They Are Accused Of
Rama Rao's Public Relations Officer, Manikya Mahesh, and Personal Assistant, Kumbala Mahender Reddy, were named in a case registered on 9 September for allegedly obstructing police personnel from discharging their duties during the confrontation. The case was filed under Sections 132, 352, and 351(2) read with 395 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), on a complaint by Reserve Inspector B. Jangaiah.
Following registration of the case, the two aides moved the Telangana High Court, which directed police not to take any coercive action against them while permitting the Investigation Officer to proceed with the inquiry.
What Triggered the Stand-Off on September 7
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao, former minister T. Harish Rao, and other Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators arrived at the Assembly wearing black shirts bearing slogans against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the state government. Police blocked their entry over the political messaging on the T-shirts, triggering an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
A woman police constable alleged that BRS MLAs and MLCs made objectionable remarks against women police officers and removed their T-shirts to stand half-naked before women personnel, causing what she described as 'extreme discomfort and embarrassment.'
Cases Registered and Arrests Made
Separately, two cases have already been booked against Rama Rao, Harish Rao, and 12 BRS MLAs and MLCs for allegedly obstructing women police personnel, using abusive language, and threatening them. A further case was registered against BRS MLCs T. Madhusudan (alias Madhu) and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, on a complaint filed by Pollepalli Venkatesham, Officer on Special Duty to the Speaker. Both MLCs were arrested on 8 September and released on bail the same day.
BRS Pushes Back, Seeks Intervention
The BRS has alleged that its women legislators were manhandled by police officers during the stand-off and has lodged complaints with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW), claiming no case was registered despite complaints from its women members. The party has also sought intervention from Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and demanded a thorough, independent investigation into the incident.
The case marks a significant escalation in the political confrontation between the BRS and the ruling Congress government in Telangana, with both sides pressing parallel legal and institutional actions.
