New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, has made a formal request to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to consider the initiation of a Vande Bharat Express train service aimed at enhancing travel between Bengaluru, the state’s capital, and the beautiful coastal areas of Karnataka.
In his letter to the Railway Minister, Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of establishing a high-speed Vande Bharat train route from Bengaluru to Madgaon in Goa, passing through key locations such as Hassan, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, and Karwar.
According to Kumaraswamy, this extension of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious Vande Bharat service would significantly aid residents in the coastal regions and greatly contribute to the overall development of Karnataka.
He pointed out that the infrastructure required for the high-speed train service is now fully established, with successful electrification having been completed along the route, including the challenging Western Ghats section.
The proposed Vande Bharat train service linking Hassan, Mangaluru Junction, Udupi, and Karwar to Madgaon is expected to stimulate tourism, as noted by Kumaraswamy.
Additionally, it would facilitate easier travel for pilgrims heading to various religious sites located along the coastal belt of Karnataka.
Furthermore, Kumaraswamy highlighted that the railway service would be advantageous for students and professionals traveling along this route.
He reiterated that establishing direct and rapid railway connectivity between Bengaluru, known as the IT hub of India, and significant commercial centers, port cities like Mangaluru, and key tourist destinations would invigorate economic growth in the region.
He stated that introducing this train service would cater to the rising passenger demand, promote regional economic activity, enhance tourism, and lead to job creation.
"Moreover, it would strengthen interstate rail connectivity, aligning with the Union government’s vision of building an integrated, efficient, and modern transport network," he added.
Given these considerations, Kumaraswamy urged Minister Vaishnaw to evaluate the feasibility of launching the Vande Bharat train service and to instruct the appropriate officials of the South Western Railway to take necessary actions.
