Bengaluru, Nov 9 (NationPress) Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has expressed profound indignation regarding the VIP treatment afforded to serial rapists and terrorists in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, which includes unauthorized access to mobile phones. On Monday, he asserted that the prison is not the only site housing terrorists, claiming that there are even more perilous individuals residing within the Vidhana Soudha.
Responding sharply to media inquiries at the JD(S) State Office, JP Bhavan in Bengaluru, the Minister condemned the disgraceful conduct of jail staff who are allegedly offering luxurious treatment to notorious convicts and undertrial prisoners.
“Terrorists are present not only within the prison walls but also among the ranks of those in Vidhana Soudha. You are well aware of who they are,” he remarked.
“The citizens of our state are discussing this openly. The issue of VIP treatment for terrorists in Parappana Agrahara is not new. Previously, two senior IPS officers had disputes over this very issue.
“In a different instance, the courts issued stern warnings to jail staff involved in such malpractice. Yet, these incidents are repeating themselves inside the prisons,” he voiced his concerns.
“Allegations suggest that various facilities are being extended to individuals convicted of grievous crimes. This is not a recent phenomenon. With terrorists being sheltered within the Vidhana Soudha, what is the value of discussing those in Parappana Agrahara? Who are we really investigating?”
“All of this is a futile exercise; these investigations merely serve as a means to squander time,” Kumaraswamy criticized the state government.
“The media and public need to confront the Chief Minister and Home Minister regarding the persistent failures in prison management. While the CM claims that BJP leaders lack dignity, what dignity do they possess themselves? That is the question they must address,” the Union Minister insisted.
“The Chief Minister possesses experience. Given such experience, can these matters be treated so lightly? Does he not have an intelligence unit? They are inadvertently supporting erroneous forces,” the Minister alleged.
When questioned if he was calling for the Home Minister’s resignation, the Union Minister replied: “Is this an era in which ministers resign simply upon demand? Which politician today possesses that standard of integrity?”
Concerns regarding major security breaches and preferential treatment within Parappana Agrahara Central Jail arose last Saturday following the emergence of viral videos allegedly depicting notorious inmates – including one of India’s most infamous rapists and serial killers, Umesh Reddy, suspected terrorists, and a gold smuggling suspect – using mobile phones and enjoying unwarranted comforts, causing considerable embarrassment to prison authorities.
Even more troubling are claims that the videos also show suspected members of Lashkar-e-Taiba and other extremist groups, both foreign and domestic, using smartphones for communication within the central prison, an occurrence that poses a significant national security threat.
This latest scandal follows previous Supreme Court directives aimed at ensuring inmates are not granted luxury amenities, a mandate issued while examining the fan murder case involving Kannada superstar Darshan.
