What Caused the Crash of the Learjet? Experienced Pilots and Safe Aircraft Involved
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) In the wake of the tragic plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, former Flight Operations Inspector of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Prashant Dhalla, stated that there are various reasons that can lead to aircraft accidents. He emphasized that it would be hasty to arrive at conclusions prior to the completion of the investigation. Notably, he asserted that the Learjet 45 is regarded as a safe aircraft, and the pilots were of a high caliber.
According to Dhalla, potential factors contributing to a crash could include human error, pilot error, technical failures in the aircraft systems, or adverse weather conditions. He highlighted that only a thorough investigation could clarify the specific cause of this unfortunate incident.
In an interview with IANS, Prashant Dhalla expressed, “Firstly, I extend my prayers for the peace of the departed soul, as we mourn the loss of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister in this tragic event. Regarding the technicalities, the aircraft was en route from Mumbai to Baramati Airport. The Learjet 45 was operated by VSR Ventures, a well-regarded operator, and many have flown on this aircraft previously.”
He added that the flight was being piloted by highly skilled crew members.
“On board was the highly esteemed Captain Kapoor alongside his co-pilot, Captain Pathak. Both were experienced pilots who tragically perished in the incident,” Dhalla stated.
Responding to inquiries about the weather conditions, Dhalla clarified that visibility was reported to be over 2,000 meters at the time of the crash.
“It is premature to attribute the crash to low visibility. Based on available information, the aircraft had attempted a missed approach, indicating that it initially aimed to land but, due to certain complications, aborted the landing and ascended again for another attempt. Regrettably, despite these efforts, the aircraft ultimately crashed,” he explained.
Dhalla reiterated the necessity of examining multiple variables before arriving at any conclusions.
“In the event of a crash, numerous factors may be at play, including human error, technical difficulties within some aircraft systems, or challenges posed by weather,” he stated.
He also mentioned that Baramati airport features a sufficiently long runway and is frequently utilized by flying clubs and private chartered aircraft.
“An investigation will uncover what actually transpired. It is too early to make definitive statements. The Learjet 45 is acknowledged as a safe aircraft, and the pilots were exceptionally qualified. What occurred is profoundly unfortunate and deeply saddening,” Dhalla concluded.
