Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Thursday, 6 August visited flash flood and cloudburst-affected areas of Keyi Panyor district in Arunachal Pradesh, assuring that the Centre — under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi — stands firmly with the people of the state and will spare no effort in relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. The visit came a day after Nadda toured flood-hit regions of Assam and Nagaland to assess ground conditions across the Northeast.

Review Meeting in Itanagar

Later on Thursday, Nadda chaired a high-level review meeting in Itanagar with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, along with state ministers, MLAs, and senior administrative officials. The meeting focused on assessing the extent of damage to infrastructure and property, expediting ongoing relief operations, and strengthening coordination between the Centre and the state government.

Nadda said all concerned departments had been directed to intensify relief, rehabilitation, and healthcare efforts to address needs arising in the aftermath of the disaster. He confirmed that financial assistance and necessary support would be delivered in a time-bound manner.

What the Central Government Has Committed

Nadda, who also holds the Chemicals and Fertilizers portfolio, stated that the Central government — in close coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh administration — would continue providing prompt relief and financial assistance to affected families. He offered his condolences to families who lost loved ones, saying, 'My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragic disaster.'

He added: 'I assure every affected family that PM Modi is fully committed to extending every possible support, and the Central government will leave no stone unturned in its relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts.'

PM Modi's Earlier Assurance to Northeast MPs

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met five Members of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland at Parliament House, New Delhi, assuring them of the Centre's full support. The delegation was led by Union Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and included Tapir Gao (Lok Sabha, Arunachal Pradesh), Tai Tagak (Rajya Sabha, Arunachal Pradesh), S. Supongmeren Jamir (Lok Sabha, Nagaland), and S. Phangnon Konyak (Rajya Sabha, Nagaland). All members except Congress MP Jamir belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Following the meeting, Modi posted on his official X account: 'Had a meeting with MPs from Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. We talked about the situation in these states in the wake of floods there. The Central Government will keep working with the respective state Governments to address the challenges. Praying for everyone's wellbeing and safety.'

Earlier Central Interventions

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Minister Rijiju and Chief Minister Khandu, had earlier conducted joint physical and aerial surveys of flood-affected areas. Chouhan announced a detailed damage assessment and promised new houses for families whose homes were washed away, along with compensation for losses to crops, agricultural land, and livestock.

Chief Minister Khandu had previously confirmed that Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were apprised of the situation, expressing confidence that the joint efforts of the Centre and state would restore normalcy at the earliest while also developing scientific, long-term disaster management solutions.

With multiple central ministers now having visited the Northeast and a coordinated relief framework in place, the focus shifts to how swiftly disbursements reach affected families on the ground.
