Why Was the Lok Sabha Adjourned Again? Govt Appeals to Cong to Facilitate Discussions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha faced another adjournment on Tuesday, just six minutes after it resumed, as the Opposition insisted on disrupting the discussions concerning the Union Budget with their uproar.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju made a plea to the Congress MPs, who were chanting slogans of 'We want justice', to allow the discourse to take place, emphasizing that members wished to express their views on the Union Budget.
"Yesterday, we implored the Congress party with folded hands to engage in discussions regarding the Union Budget. Shashi Tharoor's name was called; every party presented their speakers' list... Everyone is eager to speak, yet Congress refrains from initiating dialogue, instead causing chaos in the House," he stated.
Rijiju added, "The Congress party has already undermined the dignity of Parliament. I urge them to cease this behavior."
Despite this, the Opposition members persisted with their loud slogans.
Consequently, the House was adjourned until 2 p.m.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha had also been adjourned at 11:01 a.m., having reconvened merely a minute before, resulting in just one minute of proceedings.
This adjournment came as Opposition MPs continued their chanting, a pattern they have exhibited during the past week, demanding that the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, be permitted to address the House.
Although the Speaker allowed Gandhi to speak on the Union Budget, he insisted on discussing the 'unpublished book' of former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane (Retd.).
Gandhi was unable to complete his address during the Motion of Thanks for the President's Address the prior week, as he was prohibited from mentioning the 'unpublished book' of the former Army Chief.
