New Delhi, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 12 noon on Thursday following significant turmoil during Question Hour, as Opposition members interrupted the proceedings regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, brandishing slogans and placards. This prompted Speaker Om Birla to step in and call for order.
The session commenced with a planned discussion on matters of public significance, particularly focusing on tribal areas.
Congress MP Deepender Hooda had posed a question but chose not to present it amidst the uproar.
Speaker Birla expressed his frustration, remarking, “I always strive to maintain order in the House. Question Hour should serve the purpose of public welfare. If you refuse to conduct the House properly, the nation is observing you. You are not honoring the dignity of the House.”
Despite multiple calls for decorum, the disruptions persisted, resulting in the adjournment of the proceedings until 12 noon.
Among the limited questions raised, JD(U) MP Lovely Anand from Sheohar inquired about the Smart City initiative. However, the response from Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal was overwhelmed by the noise, as some members displayed placards right in front of the minister, escalating the disorder.
Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar (Mumbai North-West) also attempted to pose supplementary questions, but their efforts were similarly drowned out by the chaos.
The Monsoon Session has experienced numerous adjournments over the last week, primarily due to Opposition demands for a discussion on the SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar.
This marks the third week of a continuing deadlock in the Lok Sabha regarding the SIR.
Speaker Birla reiterated that Question Hour is crucial for democratic accountability and urged members to maintain the sanctity of parliamentary procedures.
Despite the Speaker’s appeals, the House could not progress with its agenda, highlighting a growing impasse between the Treasury and Opposition benches. The adjournment signifies yet another setback in a session that has already been plagued by procedural deadlock and political confrontation.
