New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha was postponed until 3 p.m. on Friday after continuous interruptions by Opposition members who were insisting on a discussion regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar.
Chairing the session, Krishna Prasad Tennati made multiple appeals for maintaining order, reprimanding members for their disruptive behavior, including banging on tables.
“You cannot pound the table like a drum. This is inappropriate. The entire nation is observing your actions,” Tennati remarked, clearly agitated.
“You cannot strike the Speaker’s table. ‘Ye dhol nahi hai’ (it is not a drum),” he stated, firmly objecting to the chaos. This will be recorded. I implore you again to let the House function. Your behavior is not aligning with the standards expected,” he continued.
Despite his requests and the announcement of issues submitted by members, which the House addresses every Friday under Rule 377, the Opposition remained unyielding.
As the uproar persisted, Tennati had no option but to adjourn the House until 3 p.m., citing ongoing disorder.
This turmoil overshadowed the planned business and resulted in the Chair having to suspend proceedings for the second time that day.
The House had reconvened at noon after an earlier adjournment. Ministers of State, including Anupriya Patel, Sanjay Seth, and Savitri Thakur, presented documents pertinent to their respective ministries.
Members from the BJP, including Ganesh Singh, Brajmohan Agrawal, Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Trivendra Singh Rawat, and Manju Sharma, submitted reports from various Parliamentary Standing Committees.
Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, delivered a statement about the Government Business for the remainder of the session.
Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, read a communication from the Rajya Sabha concerning the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025.
However, the session rapidly descended into chaos as Opposition members shouted slogans and called for an immediate debate on alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process in Bihar.
The recurring adjournments have sparked concerns regarding legislative gridlock in the ongoing Monsoon Session, with significant debates and ministerial statements being overshadowed by procedural disruptions.
