New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day at 2:05 p.m., just moments after reconvening for the second time on Tuesday, due to ongoing disruptions by the Opposition regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls affecting 12 states and union territories.

The Opposition insisted on discussing only the SIR of electoral rolls and continued to engage in persistent sloganeering within the House, moving into the well while chanting 'SIR pe charcha karo' and 'Vote chor, gaddi chhod', demanding an immediate debate on the SIR issue despite repeated requests from the Chair for them to return to their seats.

Earlier, while addressing the House amid the uproar, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated, "We have consistently requested that discussions take place in a peaceful manner during the Winter Session. There are numerous issues in the country; we cannot overlook them. With so many parties represented, it's inappropriate for a few to disrupt the House in this manner."

Referring to the Opposition's response following their defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, Rijiju remarked, "Victories and losses are part of democracy. I have experienced losses in elections too. Atal Ji also faced defeats, but venting frustration here in Parliament is not acceptable. Such actions erode public trust."

He further reassured the Opposition that the Centre is prepared to discuss every issue concerning the nation.

"I urge you to refrain from continuing this practice of disrupting House proceedings," Rijiju emphasized.

Members of the Opposition have been calling for an in-depth discussion on the ongoing SIR of electoral rolls in nine states and three union territories, alleging irregularities and demanding transparency.

The Winter Session commenced under tumultuous circumstances on Monday, with the Lok Sabha experiencing renewed protests over accusations of "vote chori" in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, alongside concerns raised regarding the SIR process.

Point of View

It's imperative to highlight that while the disruptions in the Lok Sabha are significant, they reflect a deeper issue of accountability and transparency in electoral processes. The Opposition's demands for discussion on the SIR indicate a growing concern among the electorate, reinforcing the need for dialogue and cooperation in Parliament.
