Lucknow, April 14 (NationPress) The Lucknow CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal) bench was set up in 1987, but it has only now received its own office building, 38 years later, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as highlighted by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who oversees the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the administrative ministry for CAT.
In a significant gesture to commemorate Ambedkar Jayanti, which honors the legacy of the father of the Indian Constitution, Dr Jitendra Singh and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially opened the new Lucknow CAT building located in the Gomti Nagar area on Monday.
This entire project, costing approximately Rs 25 crore, was funded by the central government through DoPT, led by Dr Jitendra Singh.
The new premises in Lucknow represent a major advancement for the system of administrative justice.
During the inauguration, Dr Jitendra Singh remarked that the Tribunal had been operating from rented spaces since its establishment in 1987 and that the new building signifies the rapid development achieved under the dual leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh. He stated, “This inauguration exemplifies the progress made under this collaborative governance model.”
Emphasizing the mission of CAT to provide justice that is affordable, accessible, and efficient, Dr Jitendra Singh pointed out that the Tribunal has resolved over 8.88 lakh cases out of nearly 9.6 lakh filed since its inception, achieving a disposal rate of about 93 percent.
The Minister noted that with a filing fee of just Rs 50 and provisions that allow litigants to represent themselves without a lawyer, CAT exemplifies the principle of delivering justice to the doorstep of citizens.
Furthermore, he highlighted the Tribunal's commendable track record of judicial excellence, with many of its rulings being upheld by High Courts and the Supreme Court.
Referring to the new building as more than just a physical structure, Dr Jitendra Singh stated it symbolizes the Tribunal’s unwavering commitment to reform, justice, and transparency.
