Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Greenlights ₹2,312 Crore Highway Initiative Before Simhastha

Bhopal, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has officially sanctioned a significant four-lane highway project estimated at ₹2,312 crore, linking Ujjain and Indore in anticipation of the upcoming Simhastha-2028, as per officials.
This proposed initiative encompasses the construction of the Ujjain Simhastha bypass spanning 19.815 km, with an estimated cost exceeding ₹700 crore, according to an official statement.
Additionally, two other roads are integrated into this proposal: the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Road valued at ₹1,370 crore, and the Indore to Depalpur Road which is projected to cost ₹239 crore.
All these infrastructure developments will be executed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation, the official further explained.
The state government has initiated preparations for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, an extensive gathering of Hindus that occurs every 12 years in Ujjain.
It is anticipated that a vast number of individuals from various parts of the country and abroad will descend upon the sacred city of Ujjain for the month-long Simhastha Mela.
All 13 Akharas of saints and seers will ceremonially take a dip in succession, for which comprehensive arrangements have been made along the banks of the Kshipra river.
The state government estimates that over 10 crore visitors are expected to attend Ujjain.
The nearest airport is located in Indore, prompting the state government to enhance connectivity between these two prominent cities, Indore and Ujjain.
In a prior meeting last month, the Cabinet led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav granted in-principle approval for a Metro train project connecting Indore and Ujjain.
This project will feature two Metro rail corridors: one from Indore to Ujjain and the other from Indore to Pithampur. The initial phase will link the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain to Lavkush Chauraha in Indore, passing through the Nanakheda Bus Stand.
The state government is also planning to establish a dedicated track for a rapid rail transit system between Indore and Ujjain. Alongside this, enhancements to railway routes are also underway.
Furthermore, the state government has revealed plans to improve facilities for Ashrams and Dharamshalas for saints and seers in Ujjain, modeled after those in Haridwar.
