Bhopal, March 7 (NationPress) In a statement praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that Madhya Pradesh has become the first state to receive the initial tranche of Central funding from the recently approved Union Budget.

This allocation, exceeding Rs 100 crore, is intended for the swift construction of a new international convention center, which will be an extension of the existing Kushabhau Convention Center in Bhopal.

“We have conducted the Bhoomi Pujan (ground-breaking ceremony) of the structure to fulfill the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” stated the Chief Minister after the Bhoomi Pujan event on Friday.

The original convention center took 27 years to complete between 1909 and 1936, but the new facility is expected to be finalized within a maximum of two years. The architect must ensure that the new building harmonizes with the historical architecture of the existing structure, he emphasized to the officials present.

“This convention center will offer a platform and various amenities not only for the Global Investors Summit but also for other international-level conventions,” remarked Mohan Yadav, who served as the chairman of MP Tourism Corporation from 2010 to 2014.

The Corporation, which operates under the state tourism department, is the key organization responsible for the construction of this new convention center.

The facility is set to be a state-of-the-art venue featuring an auditorium that can accommodate more than 2,000 individuals, as well as lodging and dining facilities, according to Sheoshekhar Shukla, the principal secretary of the state tourism department.

“It will also include accommodation for dignitaries such as the Prime Minister, President, and other high-profile guests, with five luxurious suites,” he noted.

The convention center will cater to dining needs for at least 4,000 attendees.

Completion is anticipated by 2026.

The center will also incorporate a media hub, a business center, various restaurants, dining areas, galleries, banquet halls, exhibition spaces, and all the necessary amenities for a world-class convention venue.

This ambitious project aims to position Bhopal as a leading destination for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism. In 2022, the Union Tourism Ministry launched the National Strategy for the MICE Industry to establish India as a favored location for hosting conventions, meetings, and exhibitions for both domestic and international entities.

Currently, Madhya Pradesh houses an international convention center in Indore known as the Brilliant Convention Center. Presently, Minto Hall, now referred to as the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center, accommodates only 800 individuals and includes a restaurant but lacks facilities for delegates.

Minto Hall was built with an investment of Rs 3 lakh at the time.
