Madhya Pradesh Police Rejects Allegations of Dalit Torture; BJP Criticizes Congress for Misinformation

Bhopal, Dec 4 (NationPress) The police in Madhya Pradesh have dismissed allegations made by a Dalit youth asserting that he faced torture and urination upon visiting to lodge a complaint against individuals who assaulted him.

The issue gained traction after a video surfaced, where a Dalit youth, known as Deepak Malviya, claimed he suffered torture while in a police lock-up in the Raigarh district.

According to Malviya, he had approached the police to report an attack on him from a few days prior, but instead of assisting him, the officers allegedly took him into the police station and abused him.

In his video, he stated, "A couple of cops took me inside the police station and gave me an electric shock. Instead of registering my complaint, they tortured me."

On Tuesday, Jitu Patwari, the chief of the Congress state unit, shared this video on his official social media, accusing the police of violently assaulting the Dalit youth.

"The torture of Dalits and acts of urination on them have become commonplace in Madhya Pradesh," Patwari asserted.

Contrarily, the Rajgarh district police responded, stating, "No such incident took place."

According to a police official in a video statement released on Wednesday, "There are more than a dozen CCTV cameras installed in the police station, which are directly monitored from the SP office. No such incident occurred in the Narsinghgarh Police Station."

He also mentioned that Malviya had been previously charged with causing a disturbance eight months ago and was later arrested for inciting violence through misleading social media posts. Both cases are currently pending in a district court.

Officials explained that Malviya intended to file a complaint against the Sarpanch of his village.

"The SP (Rajgarh) ordered an inquiry into Malviya's claims, which were found to be fabricated; hence, no case was registered. Now he is fabricating a new story regarding torture at the police station, which is entirely false," the police official added.

Following the police official’s remarks on Wednesday, the Madhya Pradesh BJP accused Congress of disseminating false information on social media in a deliberate attempt to undermine the BJP government.

"Congress is attempting to incite unrest in Madhya Pradesh, which is why erroneous allegations against the police and state government are being made. The police have clarified the situation completely, and thus Jitu Patwari should apologize for his unfounded claims," stated Ashish Agarwal, MP BJP media in-charge.
