Madhya Pradesh to Revive 'Gramin Parivahan Sewa'

Bhopal, Dec 3 (NationPress) The government of Madhya Pradesh is poised to reinstate the 'Gramin Parivahan Seva', aimed at providing essential last-mile connectivity to rural regions from the district headquarters across the state.

Following an in-principal endorsement from the cabinet, a comprehensive study has been undertaken to formulate the plan.

In collaboration with the Transport Department, the Finance, Public Works Department (PWD), and Rural Development are jointly developing a thorough blueprint.

On Monday, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain conducted a review of the preparations and issued necessary directives.

During this review meeting, Jain requested officials to ensure their reports are ready for presentation to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in the near future, as informed by a senior official from the Transport Department to IANS.

Once CM Mohan Yadav approves the initiative in the upcoming review meeting, it will be presented to the cabinet for final approval by the end of this month, the official stated, adding that the state government is committed to restarting the 'Gramin Parivahan Sewa' as swiftly as possible.

It has been more than twenty years since the Madhya Pradesh State Transport Corporation was dissolved in 2005 during former CM Babulal Gaur's administration.

Since that time, public bus services have been non-existent, with private operators managing bus routes.

In Madhya Pradesh, only Bhopal and Indore have urban bus services; however, the remaining 8.77 crore population relies on private operators that run on selected routes.

A proposal to revive the 'Gramin Parivahan Sewa' was initially suggested during the previous term (March 2020 to Dec 2023), but it could not materialize due to various challenges, including insufficient funding.

Nevertheless, the new BJP government under CM Yadav has resolved to reinstate public bus services.
