Bhopal, June 17 (NationPress) The government of Madhya Pradesh has approved a significant allocation of Rs 5,163 crore to revamp and enhance the state’s power transmission infrastructure within ongoing projects.

This decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday and is part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle long-standing inefficiencies, minimize power transmission losses, and guarantee a consistent electricity supply in both urban and rural regions.

“These funds will be utilized to upgrade the power transmission system in existing projects. This initiative will provide consumers with a higher quality and more reliable power supply throughout the state,” stated Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.

This funding is projected to facilitate various initiatives under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a government-backed program aimed at enhancing the operational and financial stability of state-run power transmission and distribution companies.

The scheme focuses on infrastructure improvements, smart metering, feeder segregation, and system enhancements to lower aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses to below 15% by the end of 2025.

Historically, Madhya Pradesh’s electricity distribution companies have faced high losses, which have reportedly surged from Rs 35,676 crore to approximately Rs 52,978 crore over a five-year span, despite previous reform attempts.

A considerable share of the sanctioned funds will be allocated for the installation of prepaid smart meters for consumers, distribution transformer metering, and feeder-level monitoring systems.

These enhancements are aimed at improving billing efficiency, reducing power theft, and offering real-time data for more effective load management.

The investment will also aid in the modernization of substations, replacement of outdated conductors, and capacity expansion in high-demand areas.

“The government is committed to ensuring that the advantages of this investment reach every corner of the state,” the minister emphasized.

Priorities include rural electrification, enhanced voltage regulation, and dependable power supply to agricultural consumers.

This initiative is also anticipated to create job opportunities through infrastructure development and technical support services within the state.
