Mumbai, January 5 (NationPress) With the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections approaching, the political atmosphere in Maharashtra is intensifying, with parties emphasizing Marathi identity as a pivotal theme in their campaigns.
In response to the growing demand for a Marathi mayor in Mumbai, Shiv Sena made its stance clear, insisting that the candidate for the Mayor's office must genuinely cherish Mumbai and be able to proudly declare Vande Mataram.
This statement comes amid a larger national conversation and political divide regarding the national anthem Vande Mataram.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Shaina NC stated, "The mayor of Mumbai should be a person who has a deep affection for the city, desires its advancement, and confidently proclaims 'Vande Mataram'."
The political dynamics shifted when prominent leader from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Nawab Malik, suggested that his party was in a strong position to win the Mayor's role in Mumbai.
The NCP, under Malik's leadership, is not partaking in the civic elections with the MahaYuti alliance. In a press conference, Malik compared the situation to national events, saying, "If a party with a single seat can govern in Jharkhand, then the NCP can definitely secure the Mayor's post in Mumbai with 30 seats."
Responding to Malik's claim, Shaina NC remarked, "There has been significant discussion regarding the mayoral position. We assure the public that under the MahaYuti leadership, a Marathi individual committed to Mumbai's progress will assume responsibility. Those who wave Pakistani flags and support bomb blast accused individuals will continue their politics of appeasement. We will proudly chant Jai Hindi, Jai Maharashtra, Vande Mataram."
Additionally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has adjusted its electoral strategy. Departing from its longstanding focus on development, the BJP declared that if the MahaYuti alliance gains power, a Marathi mayor will lead Mumbai.
This evolving political landscape has seen estranged relatives Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray trying to leverage the current sentiment.
The two leaders have announced their collaboration for the benefit of the Marathi manoos, forming an alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for the upcoming BMC elections and other local body elections across the state.
Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Anand Dubey also emphasized that the party's Marathi-speaking Hindu would occupy the Mayor's office.
