Mumbai, April 7 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday urged for the swift advancement of growth hub projects in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), emphasizing that it is vital to elevate the region's GDP from $140 billion to $300 billion by 2030.

During a gathering of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Growth Hub Regulatory Board, the Chief Minister highlighted the necessity for substantial contributions from sectors such as tourism, industry, urban development, housing, and environment for MMR’s evolution into a growth hub.

“In light of this, numerous projects have been launched as per the Growth Hub report. These initiatives must meet global standards, necessitating rigorous oversight. Moreover, the progress of these projects should be monitored through a war room and a dashboard,” he stated.

He also called for the formation of a team to address any obstacles encountered by these initiatives.

The report aimed at transforming MMR into a Growth Hub was crafted in September 2024. Since then, eight meetings at various levels have been convened regarding the Growth Hub.

A total of 37 projects, eight policies, and 19 government decisions have been finalized, with the implementation managed by seven agencies, according to the government's announcement.

In the Goregaon Film City project, an IICT center will be established, with numerous global studios expressing interest in setting up there.

The growth hub also encompasses projects for creating special zones in the western suburbs, developing Mumbai Port Trust (MBPT) land, Worli Dairy, the Angav Saape region, the Khardav integrated business center, and advancements in Boisar, Virar, and Thane.

Furthermore, an integrated transport strategy for Vadhwan Port, establishing a world-class data center, developing industrial cities on industrial estates, creating a health city in MMR, affordable housing for the disadvantaged, and special tourism initiatives are also integral components of the Growth Hub.

“For the long-term, sustainable, and world-class growth of MMR, the swift execution of projects under the development plan is essential. The MMR Growth Hub should be actively promoted at the 'Waves' event happening in Mumbai,” the Chief Minister remarked.

The Chief Secretary, Sujata Saunik, elaborated on the joint report concerning the Growth Hub by NITI Aayog and the Maharashtra government, detailing the actions taken.

She noted that the Maharashtra model received notable recognition in the Chief Secretary's Council. The Prime Minister has mandated a greater focus on sectors such as tourism, industry, urban development, environment, and housing.

She also recommended prioritizing the development of surrounding areas in addition to MMR.

The discussions during the meeting also included the economic strategy for the MMR region, decisions made for the Growth Hub to date, key projects and their status, tourism initiatives, and coordination between the center and the state.
