Maha Congress Charges CM Fadnavis with Covering Up Parbhani and Beed Incidents

Mumbai, Dec 26 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Congress has accused the government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of attempting to ‘suppress’ the recent death in judicial custody of a Dalit man in Parbhani, as well as the murder case involving a Beed Sarpanch.

"In light of calls from various sectors for appropriate actions regarding these incidents, the BJP is showing a lack of seriousness and is unwilling to confront the truth, indicating the predictable nature of the upcoming investigations," stated Nana F. Patole, president of the state Congress.

Patole made these statements to reporters upon his arrival in Belagavi (Karnataka) to participate in the two-day ‘Nav Satyagraha’ event, part of the AICC Special Session taking place there.

His comments pertained to the judicial custody death of law student Somnath Vyankat Suryawanshi, aged 35, on December 15, just three days after his arrest during violent protests following the desecration of a statue of B.R. Ambedkar in Parbhani. This was in addition to the abduction, brutal torture, and subsequent murder of Massajog village headman Santosh Pandit Deshmukh, aged 45, on December 9, as he attempted to thwart an extortion scheme.

Rahul Gandhi, Congress Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited the Suryawanshi family on December 23 and claimed that Fadnavis had lied in the Assembly, asserting that the Dalit individual was ‘murdered’ by the police, which sent shockwaves through political circles.

On December 21, Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party (SP), also visited the families of both Deshmukh and Suryawanshi, demanding a comprehensive investigation into their cases, along with other leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi led by Prakash Ambedkar.

Patole emphasized that Suryawanshi’s death due to police brutality constitutes a ‘murder’, and the killing of Deshmukh highlights the lawlessness prevalent in Beed, which has taken on political implications.

“Even though citizens and members of the ruling party have pointed out the facts surrounding these cases, the MahaYuti coalition government refuses to acknowledge them. Unfortunately, due to the government's complicity, even a CID investigation is unlikely to produce meaningful results,” Patole argued.

He expressed his concerns regarding what he labeled an ‘authoritarian regime’ in the country, which is drawing scrutiny from various quarters, and in this context, the AICC Special Session is crucial for both the Congress party and the nation.
