Mahakumbh Nagar, Jan 19 (NationPress) There are growing concerns regarding the significant claims about the safety measures and organization at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj following a major fire incident at the Mela site on Sunday.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai stated that a religious event like the Maha Kumbh has been reduced to merely an “event”, with greater emphasis on its publicity instead of on implementing proper arrangements.

He emphasized that despite the bold assertions made regarding the Maha Kumbh, the fire in Sector-19 has demonstrated that the arrangements were superficial.

“This entire Mahakumbh has now become an event, which is only being marketed. Figures are being released, but never before have governments released any data. Our tradition and belief are thousands of years old, but now it has been made just an event,” he informed IANS.

He remarked that the age-old tradition, faith, and culture observed during the Maha Kumbh, where people bathe and contribute with devotion, have now turned into mere propaganda. “The fire brigade team arrived 25 minutes after the incident, highlighting numerous flaws in the administrative system. If there had been adequate arrangements, this incident could have been managed immediately.”

The Congress leader pointed out a delay in addressing the situation, even with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath present. “The Chief Minister was there, but if arrangements had been sufficient, such an incident could have been prevented. Merely having the Chief Minister present and making announcements is not enough; prompt action is essential,” he added.

In response to claims made by the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the Delhi Assembly elections, Rai mentioned that both parties assert their victories in their unique ways. He referred to the developmental initiatives taken during the previous Congress administration, stating that under Sheila Dikshit, the Metro, buses, and various other development projects were launched in Delhi. Everything present in Delhi today commenced during the Congress rule.

Concerning the punishment for the perpetrator in the rape and murder case of a female doctor at Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, he insisted that such offenders should receive harsh penalties. “I urge the court to impose the death penalty to set a precedent for the entire nation,” he added.
