New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) The recent statement by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee referring to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj as the 'Mrityu Kumbh (Death Kumbh)' has ignited a wave of indignation among various political factions. Numerous leaders have condemned her comments and are calling for an apology.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya, promptly reacted, asserting, "Regardless of whether it’s Mamata Banerjee or Akhilesh Yadav, they are distressed by the successful management of the Maha Kumbh. Their focus is solely on issues pertaining to Muslims, while everything else fails to interest them. Referring to the Maha Kumbh as a 'Mrityu Kumbh' is a direct insult to billions of Hindus."

He also cautioned that there would be repercussions and reiterated the demand for an apology from Banerjee.

Vishwas Pathak, Co-Chief Spokesperson of BJP Maharashtra, expressed his discontent, commenting, "What more can we expect from Mamata Banerjee? The Maha Kumbh represents a significant aspect of faith for Hindus globally. This event occurs once every twelve years and is taking place after 144 years. People of all ages, from young children to elderly women, are eager to immerse themselves in the holy waters. Although accidents may occur, labeling it a 'Mrityu Kumbh' is entirely inappropriate."

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari adopted a more tempered response, highlighting the challenges encountered during the event.

"The revered event has never been this chaotic; it has morphed into a disorganized affair. There were fatalities in Prayagraj, on Amavasya day, at the railway station in Delhi, and in the nearby districts. Incidents of accidents, along with 20-24 hour traffic jams, made life difficult for the residents of Allahabad," noted Tiwari.

Samajwadi Party MLA Sangram Yadav criticized Banerjee’s hostile tone, labeling it as "entirely unacceptable" for someone in her position to use such derogatory language.

Banerjee’s remarks regarding the Maha Kumbh, one of the largest spiritual congregations, were made following her criticism of the Uttar Pradesh government’s inadequate planning, particularly for the less fortunate.

"This is a 'Mrityu Kumbh.' I honor the Maha Kumbh and have deep respect for the holy Ganga Maa. However, there is a lack of proper planning. How many individuals have been rescued? Provisions for food and lodging are made for VIPs, with arrangements costing up to Rs 1 lakh for tents. There is no support for the underprivileged, leading to a stampede-like scenario during the Kumbh Mela," the Chief Minister from Bengal stated.
