Kolkata, Feb 18 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, encountered widespread backlash on Tuesday for her remarks referring to the ‘Maha Kumbh’ in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, as ‘Mrityu Kumbh’.
Shankar Ghosh, the chief whip of the BJP's legislative party in the West Bengal Assembly, stated that the Chief Minister's remarks are a serious affront to the religious practices of Hinduism.
According to Ghosh, “The political strategy being employed by the Trinamool Congress indicates that the existing West Bengal administration is enacting an anti-Hindu agenda. It appears that it is easy for them to criticize Hindus, given their typical non-reactive nature. However, with Hindus beginning to respond, the Chief Minister is now fearful.”
BJP Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya commented that Banerjee's remarks about the Maha Kumbh are an affront to the entirety of Indian culture. “Such comments are intolerable across the nation. She must issue a public apology for her statements,” he asserted.
Swami Jitendranand Saraswati, General Secretary of the Akhil Bhartiya Sant Samiti, mentioned that the entire assembly of Hindu saints condemns the Chief Minister's remarks. “She fears the resurgence of the Hindu community and their fervor regarding the Maha Kumbh. Her labeling it as Mrityu Kumbh is unacceptable. I pray that the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal become a Mrityu Kumbh for her party,” he remarked.
Mahant Raju Das, a priest from Hanuman Garhi Temple in Ayodhya, described the Chief Minister's comments about the Maha Kumbh as deeply regrettable. “It seems that leaders from many opposition parties have begun to target traditional Hindu beliefs, using Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as their shields. Banerjee should sincerely apologize for her statements,” he concluded.
