Maharashtra CM Fadnavis to Announce Ministerial Portfolios This Weekend

Nagpur, Dec 21 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated on Saturday that the allocation of portfolios to ministers will be disclosed on Saturday night or Sunday.

This announcement was made during a press conference following the conclusion of a weeklong winter session of the state legislature.

Fadnavis expanded his cabinet by inducting 39 ministers from BJP (19), Shiv Sena (11), and NCP (9) on December 15, just one day prior to the commencement of the winter session on December 16. He had indicated that the portfolio allocation would take place within two days.

However, the six-day winter session wrapped up without any portfolio allocation. The ministers acted collectively during the proceedings, handling resolutions, presenting supplementary demands, and discussing various legislative bills and reports from state undertakings.

Sources from MahaYuti indicated that the delay stemmed from the time needed for alliance partners to reach an agreement on ministry allocations.

BJP has already turned down Shiv Sena’s request to assign the home department to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Additionally, the BJP has rejected Shiv Sena's bid for the revenue and housing departments. The BJP is expected to retain the revenue department while likely assigning housing to NCP. After Ajit Pawar joined MahaYuti in July 2023, the BJP had promised to allocate housing to it, but this did not occur at that time.

Insiders suggest that the BJP will keep control over home, revenue, energy, irrigation, rural development, labor, general administration, forest, cultural affairs, tourism, higher and technical education, tribal development, and public works.

Shiv Sena is anticipated to receive urban development, school education, public health, environment, transport, water supply, and limited public works concerning the operations of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and industry.

NCP is projected to retain planning and finance, agriculture, cooperation, medical education, sports and ports, as well as relief and rehabilitation.
