Mumbai, Feb 3 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav for allocating Rs 23,778 crore for various railway projects in the state during the 2025-26 financial year.
Fadnavis highlighted that previously, from 2009-14, Maharashtra received an average of only Rs 1,181 crore annually. This year's allocation is a staggering 20 times higher. From 2014 to 2025, an average of 191 kilometres of new railway lines have been constructed each year, a notable increase from the previous average of 58 kilometres. Moreover, while no routes were electrified from 2009-14, the state has seen an average of 326 kilometres electrified annually since then, resulting in a total of 3,586 kilometres fully electrified.
Currently, Maharashtra has 47 ongoing projects worth Rs 1,58,866 crore, with 6,985 km of routes under construction. This includes significant initiatives like the Dedicated Freight Corridor-DFC and the Bullet Train. The state also benefits from Rs 5,587 crore in project funding and the construction of 132 Amrut railway stations.
Fadnavis mentioned that the Railway Protection System will be implemented across 4,339 routes, with 576 km already operational. Since 2014, 1,062 railway flyovers and underground railways have been built statewide.
Additionally, lifts have been installed in 236 locations and 302 escalators have been added. WiFi services are now available at 566 railway stations, and the introduction of 11 Vande Bharat trains is set to benefit 11 districts in Maharashtra.
Fadnavis concluded by stating that the state has witnessed remarkable growth in railway infrastructure, enhancing passenger facilities and facilitating large-scale freight transport. This progress has solidified Maharashtra's position on the national railway map.
