Mumbai, June 13 (NationPress) The government of Maharashtra has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Max Aerospace and Aviation Pvt Ltd to establish a helicopter manufacturing facility in Nagpur, the state's second capital. This agreement was signed under the watchful eye of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with a projected investment of approximately Rs 8,000 crore.
Fadnavis emphasized that this initiative will significantly enhance the defence manufacturing sector in Nagpur.
As per the MoU, Max Aerospace plans to commence operations on the helicopter manufacturing plant by 2026. This ambitious project is expected to generate around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs and will unfold over the next eight years with the aforementioned investment.
“This MoU marks a landmark achievement in India’s 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' campaigns. The collaboration signifies a pivotal advancement in the industrial growth of Maharashtra and will play a vital role in making India self-reliant in the defence sector. This marks the inaugural project in Maharashtra dedicated to the customization and full-scale production of helicopters. The initiative positions Maharashtra as a key hub for aerospace manufacturing. The project will employ cutting-edge technology and will function as a Centre of Excellence for customization, integration, and flight testing of rotary-wing platforms,” stated the government.
The manufacturing facility is slated to be established near Nagpur Airport, maximizing the use of existing infrastructure and logistical support, thereby contributing to India's expanding aerospace supply chain.
CM Fadnavis expressed his satisfaction that Max Aerospace has selected Maharashtra, particularly Nagpur, for helicopter production. “Nagpur has developed robust facilities for the defence manufacturing sector. Max Aerospace will receive all necessary assistance for the establishment of its manufacturing plant, and they are encouraged to initiate production promptly,” he stated.
Bharat Malkani, Chairman of Max Aerospace, noted that Nagpur offers an ideal ecosystem for the defence manufacturing industry, with the state government having provided all essential facilities.
