Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 26 (NationPress) Maharashtra, widely recognized as the 'Land of Festivals', presented an awe-inspiring and culturally rich tableau during the 77th Republic Day parade on Monday.
The tableau, titled 'Ganeshotsav: A Symbol of Aatmanirbharta' (Self-Reliance), showcased the transformation of this beloved festival from a means of political engagement into a significant driver for economic self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods.
The narrative was designed to illustrate the festival's socio-economic influence, with an estimated annual turnover ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 crore in the state. Leading the display was a magnificent statue of a woman dressed in traditional Maharashtrian garb, energetically playing a colossal Dhol (drum), symbolizing the festival's vibrant spirit.
The mid-section highlighted the Aatmanirbhar (Self-reliant) theme, featuring a sculptor fashioning a Lord Ganesh idol from eco-friendly Shadu (clay). It also portrayed a devoted individual carrying an idol for immersion, reflecting the deep-seated faith of the community.
The backdrop included stunning replicas of the Ashtavinayak temples, symbolizing Maharashtra's rich spiritual heritage.
A group of approximately 20 dancers from the Shreeja Loksanskruti Foundation (from Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara) accompanied the tableau, performing the Lezim, a traditional folk dance characterized by jingling cymbals, which dates back to the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
This dance was originally practiced by Maratha warriors to enhance their stamina and agility, making it a fitting exhibition of cultural strength on Kartavya Path.
Earlier, Secretary to the Maharashtra Governor, Prashant Narnaware, raised the National Tricolour at Lok Bhavan, Mumbai, marking the 77th Republic Day. Officers and staff, along with a platoon from the State Reserve Police Force, sang the National Anthem.
Secretary Narnaware exchanged Republic Day greetings with attendees and distributed sweets to the children of staff and officers. A company from the SRPF and State Police also participated by singing the National Anthem and saluting the flag.
Present at the occasion were Joint Secretary to the Governor S. Ramamoorthy, Comptroller of the Governor’s Households Dr. Nishikant Deshpande, ADC to the Governor Abhaysinha Deshmukh, and ADC to the Governor Lt. Vikram Kumar, along with Lok Bhavan's officers and staff.
