Mumbai, Aug 19 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, revealed the new emblem for Ganeshotsav on Tuesday following the weekly cabinet meeting, marking its celebration as ‘Rajya Mahotsav’ starting this year.
A budget of approximately Rs 11 crore has been designated for an array of cultural activities, which include competitions, illuminations, lectures, and folk-art performances. This year, the state government aims to elevate Ganeshotsav to both national and international stages, as stated by Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar. He emphasized that the emblem will serve as the festival's official identity in all celebratory activities.
For the first time, the Maharashtra Government will engage directly in the festivities to enhance the festival's status on a broader scale. This year’s celebrations will incorporate two themes – ‘Operation Sindoor’, honoring the courage of the Indian Army, and ‘Swadeshi Jagar’, promoting the vision of a self-reliant and Atmanirbhar Bharat. These themes coincide with the festival's new designation as ‘Rajya Mahotsav’, as per a government announcement.
Minister Shelar remarked, “Maharashtra is a region abundant in art, culture, and tradition, enriched by the heritage of saints, social reformers, and warriors. This sacred land has historically fostered intellectual vibrancy and social unity, which has been foundational for the state’s economic, social, and cultural evolution. Ganeshotsav has been instrumental in nurturing this unity, representing the age-old tradition of household Ganesh celebrations and the long-standing public Ganeshotsav culture as proud emblems of Maharashtra’s cultural harmony.”
Further, he expressed, “It’s crucial that the significance of this esteemed heritage is showcased globally. By merging tradition with modernity and enhancing the festival’s cultural importance, we can strengthen tourism and promote our rich traditions. Our aim is to establish Maharashtra on an international platform.”
He underlined the necessity for the world to acknowledge the social and cultural relevance of Ganeshotsav.
“To preserve the festival's traditional essence while adopting modern aspects, and to ensure every citizen feels a connection to these celebrations, declaring Ganeshotsav as a state festival is essential. The Maharashtra Government will facilitate this endeavor,” he stated.
