New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) BJP leader Ajay Mahawar intends to bring forth the proposition of renaming Babarpur during the current Delhi Assembly session. He has suggested that the name could honor any Hindu or Muslim freedom fighter or an individual who has significantly contributed to the nation’s progress, such as the late APJ Abdul Kalam, former President and Bharat Ratna.

In an interview with IANS, Ajay Mahawar remarked, "Previously, in the Assembly during the tenure of the Kejriwal government, I raised this topic, and my comments were duly recorded."

"I have advocated for renaming Babarpur because Babar was a plunderer, an invader, and a barbarian. He is the same Babar who destroyed the birthplace of our revered Ram and erected the Babri mosque in its stead. He is also responsible for renaming the sacred city of Ayodhya to Faizabad."

"While some individuals, particularly from the Opposition, might argue that this is a Hindu-Muslim issue, I contend that figures like Abdul Kalam, Abdul Ghaffar Khan, and Ashfaqulla Khan, who fought for freedom or contributed to nation-building, deserve recognition in this manner," he continued.

"This matter transcends religious boundaries. I have already expressed that if desired, we could name it Kalampuri, in honor of Abdul Kalam. I am open to that idea. However, Babar will never be my hero," he asserted.

Mahawar further stated, "Should Mohan Singh Bisht’s Private Member Bill regarding this issue be approved in the Assembly, I will present my suggestion alongside it during the discussions. I am also willing to support names associated with Muslims. This subject is not about division; we are adaptable and receptive to all name suggestions.

"However, we will categorically reject names linked to invaders or looters who have ravaged the cultural heritage of Delhi, polluting its air, water, and sewage. We carry the responsibility of safeguarding the cultural identity and heritage of our city."

This demand emerges as the Delhi Assembly is also deliberating on the renaming of the Mustafabad Assembly Constituency.
