Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde on Friday, 5 June declared the unopposed election of Mahayuti candidate Ravindra Phatak in the Thane-Palghar Legislative Council constituency as the opening salvo of a clean sweep for the ruling alliance. Shinde expressed full confidence that all 17 Mahayuti candidates would emerge victorious across the upcoming Legislative Council polls.

Six Candidates Elected Unopposed

According to Shinde, six Mahayuti candidates — two each from the Shiv Sena, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) — have already been returned unopposed. He argued that even if voting had proceeded, the alliance commanded a clear majority, but the unanimous withdrawal of rival candidates preserved Thane's long-standing tradition of consensus elections. He cited the late Vasant Davkhare as a historical precedent for such uncontested outcomes in the constituency.

Alliance Coordination Across Constituencies

Shinde highlighted what he described as strong inter-party coordination within the coalition. In Raigad, MLAs Mahendra Dalvi, Mahendra Thorve, and Minister Bharat Gogawale actively backed Mahayuti candidate Aniket Tatkare. In Pune and Sambhajinagar, strategic withdrawals by alliance candidates demonstrated what Shinde called 'excellent coordination in the larger interest of the coalition.' Positive discussions are reportedly underway in Nashik and Jalgaon, with unanimous outcomes expected soon.

Sharp Attack on Maha Vikas Aghadi

Shinde launched a pointed attack on the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), asserting that factionalism and deep internal divisions within the bloc had been thoroughly exposed. He argued that candidate withdrawals across multiple regions highlighted the MVA's weakening organisational grip, and that the opposition's lack of coordination had become a pattern visible across local body, Assembly, and Legislative Council elections alike.

Development Record and Thane's Urban Renewal Push

Attributing the alliance's electoral momentum to governance outcomes, Shinde said that since 2022, the Mahayuti government had significantly accelerated Maharashtra's development trajectory, underpinned by the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He credited the impact of mega projects initiated during his own tenure as Chief Minister for the alliance's strong showing in the Assembly elections. Under the current leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he said the pace of development had accelerated further. Shinde also spotlighted Thane's Cluster Redevelopment Scheme — being implemented through the Thane Municipal Corporation and CIDCO — describing it as the country's largest urban renewal project, aimed at delivering modern infrastructure, schools, hospitals, and parks to residents. He reiterated the government's commitment to farm loan waivers, saying the process had already commenced, and added that the administration was fully prepared for the approaching monsoon season with disaster management systems on high alert.

With six seats already secured unopposed and negotiations progressing in Nashik and Jalgaon, the Mahayuti alliance appears positioned to consolidate its hold over the Legislative Council.
