Kolkata, April 20 (NationPress) Ziaul Haque, also known as Chacha, the primary suspect in the double homicide of a man and his son in Samserganj, located in the Murshidabad district, is scheduled to appear in a district court this afternoon.
A senior police official confirmed his court appearance, indicating that the public prosecutor would request police custody for Haque, marking him as the fourth individual arrested in connection with this heinous crime.
Haque was apprehended on Saturday night in Chopra, within the North Dinajpur district.
The investigation team looking into the Murshidabad violence has reason to believe that additional individuals may be implicated in this case.
"Therefore, Haque's police custody is essential to gather information regarding his accomplices in the crime," stated the district police official.
The initial arrests consisted of two cousins, identified as Kalu Nadab and Dildar Nadab, who reside in a neighboring village to where the victims lived. Kalu was detained in Murarai in the Birbhum district, while Dildar was captured in Suti in Murshidabad.
Subsequently, last week, local electrician Inzamam Haque was also arrested.
"All four arrests were made after they were identified through CCTV footage as pivotal figures in the murders. Ziaul Haque had been evading capture since the incident, and we finally succeeded in arresting him," remarked a police official.
Recently, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared a compensation of Rs 10,00,000 each for the families of the victims of the violence in Murshidabad. According to police reports, the total death toll related to the communal strife has reached three.
However, the families of the deceased have made it clear that they will not accept the compensation, arguing that the state government should prioritize ensuring the safety of innocent residents in the district.
The National Commission for Women (NCW), which recently sent a delegation to the violence-affected areas in Murshidabad, has stated they will advocate for the establishment of permanent Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) camps in the region with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
