New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) In a significant crackdown on a drug trafficking operation in Kolkata, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully confiscated narcotics valued at approximately Rs 26 crore and detained 10 individuals, including the mastermind of the network, an official reported on Saturday.
The seizure included a total of 32.466 kgs of Cannabis (Ganja), 22.027 kgs of Hydroponic weed, and 345 grams of cocaine, along with cash proceeds from drug sales, as stated by the official.
In the early hours of Friday, DRI officers executed coordinated searches at three distinct sites – one at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Kolkata, and two residential properties in the Bijoygarh area of Jadavpur, according to the official statement.
At the residential property tied to the mastermind, significant quantities of hydroponic weed, cannabis, and cocaine were discovered.
The second residential site, which the mastermind had rented, contained a large amount of cannabis that was packaged and ready for distribution.
Four accomplices, responsible for the sale and local distribution of these narcotics in Kolkata, were apprehended at this location.
Additionally, cash believed to be derived from narcotic sales was also seized from the sites.
On the same day, another member of the syndicate, tasked with arranging suppliers from abroad, was also captured.
In a separate operation at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport in Dumdum, four individuals (including three women) affiliated with this syndicate, arriving from Bangkok, were intercepted. A considerable quantity of narcotics was recovered from their belongings as well.
Alongside cash, the authorities seized 32.466 kgs of cannabis (Ganja), 22.027 kgs of hydroponic weed, and 345 grams of cocaine.
Ten individuals (all Indian nationals), including the mastermind, foreign carriers, retail distributors, and middlemen, were arrested and presented in court for judicial remand.
All actions were conducted under the applicable provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
