New Delhi, Jan 28 (NationPress) AICC treasurer and former Delhi Assembly Speaker Ajay Maken on Tuesday directed his criticism at the AAP government for delaying financial support to 3.20 lakh beneficiary girls under the Ladli Yojana, which was initiated by the Congress government in the national capital in 2008.
As part of the Congress party's 'AAP ke Pap' campaign, former Delhi minister Maken presented findings from a CAG report during a press briefing, challenging the AAP government's assertions about its commitment to public welfare.
“While the AAP government claims it will provide Rs 2,100 a month to women in the future, it is currently denying girls their rightful financial benefits under the Ladli Yojana despite having the funds available. Who will believe they will deliver on the promised Rs 2,100 to women?” he questioned.
AICC treasurer Maken stated that the AAP government is fearful of exposure, which led to the suppression of the CAG report revealing the inadequate execution of the Ladli Yojana.
As of December 2022, approximately 3.2 lakh women were still awaiting payments from the Ladli Yojana, even though the government possessed Rs 618 crore allocated for the scheme, according to Maken, who cited excerpts from the CAG report now in the public domain.
The Ladli scheme, designed to combat female feticide and enhance the education of the girl child, includes multiple instalments of financial support from the Delhi government, amounting to over Rs 1 lakh from birth to the age of 18—spanning nearly two decades.
Maken noted that the number of registrations under the Ladli scheme has fallen to a third of the original figures since its inception by the Sheila Dikshit government.
“Some beneficiaries who are still waiting for payments have reached the age of 26, while they should have received the funds at just 18,” Maken stated, accusing the AAP government of withholding the funds intended for girl children.
Maken further criticized the AAP government for failing to construct three senior citizen homes in Sarita Vihar, Chhatarpur, and Geeta Colony, despite the Union government providing the land for this purpose in 2013.
“The Sheila Dikshit government established a law in 2007 to create senior citizen homes in every district. The AAP government has not succeeded in executing this scheme,” Maken concluded.
