Chennai, Nov 8 (NationPress) The opposition AIADMK has initiated an extensive grassroots voter verification campaign throughout Tamil Nadu, assigning its booth agents and district coordinators with the responsibility of identifying and eliminating “bogus” entries from the electoral rolls amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
As per party insiders, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has designated a district coordinator for each district to collaborate with booth agents and supervise the verification of electoral lists at the polling station level.
Former party ministers are also involved to ensure that legitimate voters who support the AIADMK are accurately represented in the lists, sources revealed.
Addressing the media, R.M. Babu Murugavel, Joint Secretary of the AIADMK’s Advocate Wing, stressed the importance of diligence and precision during the SIR. “This initiative by the Election Commission is vital for maintaining a fair and transparent electoral process. However, our analysis suggests that numerous discrepancies still exist,” he stated.
Referencing data from Nagapattinam, Murugavel pointed out that party volunteers had discovered approximately 1,680 names of deceased individuals still listed as voters. “We also identified around 49 individuals registered to vote in two different locations. If this is the scenario in just one district, consider the scale of the issue throughout Tamil Nadu,” he remarked.
Murugavel, a former MLA, mentioned that he has personally visited various regions to gauge the situation and report his observations to party leadership. “Our booth agents have been directed to collaborate closely with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to verify voters, rectify discrepancies, and ensure no authentic AIADMK supporter is omitted from the rolls,” he added.
The month-long voter verification and revision initiative commenced on November 4 and will persist until December 4.
AIADMK leaders have urged party members to engage in this campaign with utmost seriousness, recognizing it as a crucial preparatory phase for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
