Kolkata, Aug 11 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee voiced her discontent on Monday against the creators of the Bollywood film Keshari Chapter 2 for incorrectly portraying the Bengali revolutionary Khudiram Bose as “Khudiram Singh”. This criticism arose as she honored the freedom fighter on the anniversary of his death.
In a post on social media, Banerjee deemed the misrepresentation an “attack on the Bengali language” and a disrespect to those who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence.
“I pay my respects on the death anniversary of revolutionary Khudiram Bose. Recently, in a Hindi film, our revolutionary was referred to as ‘Singh’. Why are we insulting those who gave their lives for freedom? Will language terrorists not recognize the immortal revolutionary Khudiram?” Banerjee questioned.
A recent uproar occurred after Khudiram Bose was named Khudiram Singh in the Akshay Kumar film Keshari Chapter 2. An FIR was filed against the producers at the Bidhannagar South police station in June, accusing them of misrepresenting historical figures from West Bengal.
The complaint claimed the film inaccurately depicted Khudiram Bose as “Khudiram Singh” and referred to Barindra Kumar Ghosh as “Birendra Kumar” from Amritsar.
As one of the youngest freedom fighters, Khudiram Bose was executed on August 11, 1908, at just 18 years old for his involvement in the Muzaffarpur bomb case.
Banerjee emphasized that the son of Bengal was misrepresented as a son of Punjab, stating, “Our indomitable teenager from Midnapore is shown as a son of Punjab. Unbearable! Yet, we have always honored this man, a symbol of patriotism and ultimate sacrifice.”
She also highlighted her government’s efforts to preserve Bose’s legacy, including the development of his birthplace, Mahabani, and its vicinity.
“For the advancement of Mahabani and the surrounding areas related to Khudiram Bose’s birth, the Mahabani Development Authority has been formed. We have taken significant steps, from erecting a statue of Shaheed Khudiram in Mahabani to renovating the library, constructing a spacious auditorium, and creating a conference room. An open stage has also been built, modern cottages for visitors established, and the traditional Khudiram Park revitalized. The area is beautifully illuminated as well,”
she stated.
Banerjee further mentioned that her government named a metro station in Kolkata after him.
