Kolkata, January 5 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, questioned on Sunday how Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee could utilize her own letterhead to communicate with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar regarding political issues concerning the Trinamool Congress.

Adhikari's remarks came in response to a letter from the Chief Minister to the CEC, which was shared with the media earlier that day. In her correspondence, she expressed her concerns about alleged irregularities, procedural breaches, and administrative shortcomings during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state.

“The usage of the official letterhead of the Chief Minister of West Bengal for this letter to the CEC is both illegal and unconstitutional. The role of the Chief Minister is constitutional, and thus, the official letterhead should not have been employed in this matter,” he stated to the media.

According to Adhikari, the Chief Minister's position is both an administrative and a constitutional one.

“This is why B.R. Ambedkar did not use the phrase 'For the party, By the Party, Of the Party'. Instead, he utilized 'For the people, By the people, Of the people'. If Mamata Banerjee wished to voice any grievance to the CEC regarding her party's political disputes, she should not have done so on her official letterhead. Instead, she ought to have used the letterhead belonging to her party, Trinamool Congress,” explained Adhikari.

“As a representative and Chairperson of a political party, Mamata Banerjee has the right to communicate any political issue to the CEC. However, she should have done so using the letterhead of the Trinamool Congress,” Adhikari added.

He further stated that the CEC should dismiss the letter from Mamata Banerjee as inconsequential.

“As a proud Bengali and the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, I feel embarrassed that the Chief Minister's official letterhead is being employed to present the political concerns of a party to the CEC,” concluded Adhikari.
