New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) A young man tragically drowned in a municipal swimming pool located in the Shalimar Bagh area of north Delhi, as reported by the police on Monday.
The victim, Ankit Kumar, aged 25, was in the pool around 5:30 PM on Sunday, accompanied by his brother and friends, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
This swimming pool is managed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and authorities are currently investigating whether there was any negligence on the part of the staff or contractor.
His friends and brother noticed Ankit had lost consciousness, quickly pulling him from the water and rushing him to the hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead en route, according to the police.
His body has been placed in the mortuary at Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital pending a post-mortem examination, the police stated.
A case has been filed under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses causing death due to negligence.
Initial investigations revealed that Ankit and his companions had illegally entered the pool, which was officially closed to the public at the time. The closure was due to the contractor’s failure to clear electricity dues, as per police reports.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to determine if there was foul play or negligence by the security personnel assigned to the temporarily shut pool.
In an unrelated incident, police initiated a case against a builder in Jafrabad who allegedly staged a firing attack at his own office to implicate his financier.
The accused, Md. Anish, was apprehended along with a juvenile associate, accused of orchestrating the false attack to mislead authorities regarding a substantial debt he owed.
The police received reports of a shooting on August 9 in Gali No. 8, near Sana Public School, Maujpur, and upon investigation, discovered an empty cartridge at the scene.
A police team, led by the Jafrabad SHO, scrutinized CCTV footage, leading to the arrest of Mursleen, a 25-year-old associate of Anish, who confessed to the scheme, detailing that he was instructed to carry out the firing using a pistol provided by Anish. Both the firearm and a live cartridge were recovered from Mursleen.
Following this revelation, Anish was arrested, and the juvenile involved was taken into custody.
