Bhopal, April 12 (NationPress) A man set himself ablaze outside a police station in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. Fortunately, swift actions taken by a few police officers helped save the individual, although he suffered severe burn injuries.

The shocking incident took place near the Gautam Nagar police station.

A disturbing clip from the scene captures the man’s upper body engulfed in flames as he lay on the roadside, with two officers attempting to extinguish the fire.

The man, identified as Suraj, aged between 30 to 35, was rushed to the district hospital with approximately 40 percent burn injuries and was struggling for breath.

An official reported that his condition remains critical.

Suraj allegedly doused himself in petrol and ignited himself in front of his wife, Rani, who had come to the police station to file a complaint regarding domestic violence against him.

This extreme act was allegedly driven by his fear of facing a domestic violence case. Witnesses at the police station were left in shock by the incident.

An official indicated that domestic violence is suspected to be a significant factor behind his drastic action, adding that further steps would be taken as necessary.

Interestingly, this incident unfolded just a day after a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) held a press conference addressing the rise in false domestic violence allegations against men.

Numerous men facing domestic violence charges were present at the Bhopal event on Friday, with many from various professions, including medical, engineering, and banking sectors, claiming to be victims of fabricated domestic violence accusations from their wives and family members.

Chandana Arora, an attorney and head of the NGO, mentioned that the organization is dedicated to assisting men who are victims of false domestic cases and ‘marital terrorism’ to highlight this growing societal issue.
