Bhopal, March 24 (NationPress) Similar to the recent incident involving a police team in Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj, another violent confrontation against law enforcement occurred in Sehore district late Saturday night.
A police unit had been sent to Kheri village in the Ichhawar area following reports of an escalating dispute when they were attacked by five locals.
Upon their arrival, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ramnarayan Dhurve, accompanied by two Constables, was ambushed by five assailants -- Hemraj, Vishal, Gajraj, Rahul, and Bhura -- wielding only sticks.
The attack left SI Dhurve in critical condition, prompting his two colleagues to withdraw in order to protect themselves.
The injured officer was quickly transported to the district hospital for treatment, while authorities confirmed that charges were filed against the five attackers.
Senior police officials verified the incident but were hesitant to provide further details.
However, police sources indicated that the conflict stemmed from a personal dispute.
Kamlesh, a resident of Kheri, had recently married a woman from a neighboring village. When her family became aware of the marriage, they descended upon Kheri that night.
Fearful, Kamlesh and his family fled, leaving their home unoccupied.
Taking advantage of the deserted house, a group of local miscreants began vandalizing the property, which prompted villagers to alert the police.
This marks the fourth violent attack on police personnel reported in a single week.
Recently in Gadra village, under the jurisdiction of the Shahpura police station in Mauganj district, the tragic deaths of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramcharan Gautam and a young man named Sunny Dwivedi served as a grim reminder.
In Damoh, a tense situation over a weapons seizure led to an ASI being shot by the suspect Qasim Khan, who was subsequently injured by return fire.
In Budhar, Shahdol, even a group of local women threw stones at police officers during an arrest, resulting in several injuries.
