Violence Erupts in Jahangirabad, Bhopal: Police Deploy Heavy Forces to Restore Calm

Bhopal, Dec 24 (NationPress) A sense of unease enveloped the Jahangirabad area in Bhopal on Tuesday after a fierce clash erupted between two factions, necessitating the deployment of extensive police resources and the establishment of a perimeter to restore calm.

The conflict reportedly ignited from a dispute concerning the alleged assault of two motorcyclists near the Galla Mandi region. The situation intensified as numerous individuals from both factions engaged in a substantial confrontation.

Subsequent to the initial altercation, incidents of stone hurling and stick assaults occurred, with both men and women participating, resulting in injuries to nearly a dozen individuals. The turmoil was eventually contained as several police units arrived and conducted a flag march to reassure the local community.

Footage of the violence, seemingly captured by residents from their homes, circulated on social media. The clips depicted individuals wielding swords and sticks, pursuing opponents, while others, including women, appeared to provoke the altercation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP, Zone 1) Priyanka Shukla indicated that the unrest stemmed from a prior disagreement between the factions. 'Just two days earlier, one individual was attacked with a knife during a scuffle. Three suspects have been apprehended, and a manhunt is ongoing for two additional suspects,' Shukla stated.

On Tuesday, members of one faction, including women, allegedly took to the streets armed with sticks and swords, targeting members of the rival group. This provoked panic and a counter-response, prompting members of the second faction to also arm themselves.

The police confirmed that the factions were embroiled in an ongoing dispute concerning a pathway within the neighborhood.

'A significant police presence has been established in the locality, with entry and exit points secured. The situation is now under control. CCTV footage is being analyzed to identify those involved, and investigations are in progress,' DCP Shukla added.
