Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Feb 19 (NationPress) A man reportedly assaulted two women with a sword following a disagreement regarding stray dogs in Shravan Kanta Colony, located in Madhya Pradesh's capital, Bhopal, as stated by police on Thursday.
Both victims suffered severe injuries. One woman endured deep lacerations to her abdomen, while the other injured her hand.
The women were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment. They have been identified as Vandana Sen and Laxmi Thakur, residents of Shravan Kanta Colony under the jurisdiction of the Ayodhya Nagar police station.
Authorities indicated that the incident was related to an ongoing conflict regarding stray dogs in the neighborhood. Local residents had previously raised concerns about the increasing disturbance caused by these dogs, noting that they often chased pedestrians, barked aggressively, and endangered children and elderly individuals.
In response to these complaints, a dog squad from the municipal corporation had recently visited the area and captured stray dogs for sterilization. After the necessary procedures, the dogs were returned to the locality.
According to police, a local individual named Ashok Chauhan allegedly returned some of the stray dogs to the colony and continued to feed them. This action faced opposition from several residents, including the injured women, who voiced their concerns about the presence of stray dogs in the neighborhood on Thursday.
During the protest, a confrontation erupted between Chauhan, who reportedly considers himself a dog lover, and the protesting residents. The situation escalated, leading Chauhan to allegedly return armed with a sword and attack the two women, inflicting serious injuries.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, police arrived at the scene and filed a case regarding the attack. “An FIR has been lodged against Ashok Chauhan and several others, and search operations are currently in progress. All suspects will be apprehended soon,” stated Ayodhya Nagar police station SHO Mahesh Lillare.
Authorities mentioned that further investigations are underway to clarify the sequence of events and identify all individuals involved in the assault.
This incident highlights the rising concerns over issues related to stray dogs in Bhopal.
The matter was recently brought up in the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly during the ongoing budget session, with Bhopal MLA Atif Aqeel emphasizing the growing number of stray dogs and incidents of dog bites in the city.
