Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Feb 20 (NationPress) Authorities have taken into custody two individuals following an incident where women were stabbed and attacked with a sword stemming from a confrontation regarding stray dogs in the Shravan Kanta Colony of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, as reported by local police on Friday.
The suspects have been named as Ashok Singh Chauhan and Nafees Ansari, according to Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lilhare, who confirmed that they have been charged under Sections 296A, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Police investigations revealed that Ashok Singh Chauhan, a resident of Sharda Kunj Colony, had an ongoing disagreement with Shravan Kanta Colony residents over the stray dog situation.
On Friday morning, Chauhan, accompanied by his associates, including Nafees Ansari, approached Shravan Kanta State Colony and began hurling insults at the local residents concerning the dogs.
“Chauhan launched an attack on two women, Vandana Sen and Laxmi Thakur, both of whom reside in the colony. The women sustained serious injuries and were promptly taken to a hospital for medical attention,” Lilhare stated.
“After a thorough search across various locations, police apprehended the absconding suspects Ashok Singh Chauhan and Nafees Ansari. The sword used in the assault has also been recovered,” he added.
According to police reports, Chauhan was agitated by complaints from residents about the disturbances caused by stray dogs, which were known to chase pedestrians aggressively and create a danger for children and elderly community members.
In response to these grievances, a dog squad from the municipal corporation had visited the area days prior to capture stray dogs for sterilization. After completing the necessary procedures, the dogs were released back into the community.
Upon learning that Chauhan had returned the stray dogs to the colony, residents organized a protest.
During this protest, a heated argument ensued between Chauhan and the demonstrators, which escalated further. Chauhan then reappeared armed with a sword and assaulted the two women, resulting in severe injuries, as per police accounts.
